Event review means a bigger and better Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 05/09/2008: Campers and patrons at this year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama will benefit from a more streamlined approach to accessing the precinct after a full review of last year’s event. V8 Supercars Australia and the New South Wales Police Force have introduced a revised system of accessing the event and the camping areas after difficulties were experienced last year on the two main entry and exit points. While Police will maintain a strong presence at the event there has been an agreement to assist patrons, particularly campers, to enjoy the atmosphere of the iconic race by reviewing some of the procedures of last year. Each adult race enthusiast will be restricted to taking only one of the following items into the campgrounds each day - a combination of these items is not allowed: No glass alcohol containers are permitted in any of the camping areas or within the event precinct. “In partnership with the Police we have closely analysed how we can improve the experience for all spectators but still maintain the high levels of safety required for an event that hosts more than 180,000 people,” V8 Supercar Events General Manager Shane Howard said. “It is a common sense approach to Policing and security of a site which is unusual compared to most events given that more than 30,000 people live on the premises for up to a week.” With all campsites completely sold out except for Reid Park at the top of the mountain, it is an ideal opportunity to secure the remaining places at the event. “People can be rest assured that we have done everything within the current legislation to ensure that campers can and do have the best weekend possible,” Mr Howard said. “Our feedback from last year shows that people noticed a dramatic upsurge in families attending the event and making it a great weekend for everybody. This is exactly our intention – to put behind us the pre-conceived myths of Bathurst 20 years ago and what it really is like in 2008.” The event review has also tidied up the process for patrons to reclaim alcohol that may have been stored after their entry with more than the allowable daily, per-person amount. The holding area will be fully staffed by V8 Supercar Events staff and security on the Monday following the event for patrons to be able to collect the excess alcohol up until 4pm following some misunderstandings last year. Campsites can still be purchased by either completing an online booking form or by downloading and printing a form and faxing it back to V8 Supercar Events 07 5591 6566.
